Moving Tips

• Always pack your non-essential items first. Anything that you will not need until you are fully unpacked should be included here so you can begin packing weeks in advance.

• Be sure to label all your boxes on the tops and sides of each box. This will ensure that your belongings are packed safely inside the truck.

​

• Put heavier items in small boxes. Typically, the heavier the item is the smaller the box you should use. Save the larger boxes for light items.

​

• Be sure to tape all boxes shut with secure packing tape.

​

• If moving locally, leave your pets with a friend on moving day. Animals can become confused and frightened during a move.
• When taking apart items to be moved, such as tables, securely tape screws and other small parts securely to the underside of the item.  You'll always know where to look and save time putting things back together.
• Pack a kid's sized suitcase and let each child pick out a special toy to keep with them and a special outfit to wear on "new home day."
   
• Federal law requires that you dispose of flammables such as fireworks, cleaning fluids, matches, acids, chemistry sets, aerosol cans, ammunition, and poisons such as weed killer. Drain fuel from your power mower and other machinery. Discard partly used cans of oil, paint, thinner, bleach, or any other substances that may be flammable or combustible or those stored in containers that may leak.
